I'm Not Good Enough (8 Ways to Be Better)
BY CHRIS SAVAGE
Why Am I Not Good Enough?
Have you ever felt like you weren't good enough?
No matter how many times people tell you how amazing you are, you still feel like you’re not enough.
You look for any signs you're not living up to your potential.
Then you focus on your imperfections, hating on yourself for not being perfect.
If you were my client I would ask you "What about you makes you think you're not good enough?"
What are you doing or not doing that makes you see yourself that way?
What would you be like if you were enough?
Instead of focusing on your imperfections put your energy into making an exceptional life for yourself.
What Does “Not Good Enough” Mean?
When you feel you’re not good enough you’re usually measuring your current self with who you think you should be.
You're comparing yourself to other people around you that seem to be doing better than you are.
Society and the media sets a high bar for people to reach before they can feel good about themselves.
You have to make a certain amount of money, look a certain way, and always be happy.
When you do get the money, the look, and the lifestyle you feel good for a while.
Until the next set of expectations set in and you’re back to feeling like you did before.
If you can use your personal dissatisfaction as motivation to go for your goals, you’re winning.
But too many people, when they feel like they’re not enough, start to believe it.
They label themselves as a loser and unfortunately, they give up.
What Does It Mean to Be Enough?
If you’re not measuring up to an ideal you have in your head of who you should be, you feel unworthy.
What will it take to feel like you are enough?
Life is always changing and we are too.
What was good enough last year might be insufficient now.
You might have new goals and objectives that require you to grow and improve.
Maybe your life sucks at the moment. Maybe you suck and you’ve been letting yourself down.
I know I’ve had plenty of times in my life where I sucked, and my life sucked too.
Feeling like you’re enough is a transient feeling that can change from day to day.
Have you made progress on your goals?
Are you closer now than you were a year ago?
Have you progressed in your personal development by rooting out self-destructive behaviors and instilling more empowering ones?
Is your lifestyle aligned with who you want to be and what you want your life to become?
Are you becoming a better person?
If you answered yes to these questions then guess what?
You’re more than enough.
Actually, you’re miles ahead of most people.
Stay on track and keep going. Success is closer than you think.
3 Things to Remember About Being Enough
1. You Can’t Win When You Feel Like a Loser
The only way to become more successful is by seeing yourself as a person of value and unlimited potential.
You know you are capable and worthy of success.
It’s ok to not be where you want to be.
What you consider successful will be a moving target for as long as you live.
But you need to get your mind right first.
Until you acknowledge your own greatness no one else will.
2. Your Inner Voice Is a Trickster
Thousands of thoughts flow through your mind every day. They never stop.
The human mind is ever-evolving.
It still has many imperfections within its cognitive architecture.
What does that mean?
It means that the voice in your head can be wrong.
Learn to use your inner voice as an ally.
Let it point things out to you that you need to improve on.
But don’t allow it to go on a rant telling you how hopeless you are.
Don’t believe everything you think.
3. You Have to Accept Where You Are to Move Forward
Accepting where you are doesn’t mean you have to settle.
You might hate where you are and it would be foolish to pretend like everything’s great when it’s not.
If you stay in denial you won’t see your flaws.
You need to be able to see the problem before you can overcome it.
8 Ways to Stop Thinking You’re Not Good Enough
Here's a few sure ways to stop thinking you’re not good enough.
They'll help you rewire your brain to see yourself as the amazing person you are (even if you haven’t been acting like it lately)
1. Go Back Over Your Life
Go back over your life and write down all your wins, positive memories, and times you were proud of yourself.
Write them down.
2. Stop Comparing Yourself
STOP comparing yourself to other people.
A series of thoughts and actions got them what they have.
Use their success as a blueprint. Model their thoughts and actions for a similar result.
Stop comparing and start taking action.
3. Disregard Social Media
Remember, what you see on social media is an act.
Social platforms exploit peoples desire to feel acknowledged and encouraged.
You don’t have to impress anyone except yourself.
Live a life that makes you feel proud.
Set clear goals for a better life and keep following through until you have them.
4. Don't Believe Everything You Think
Just believing something doesn't make it true.
Your mind might tell you something about yourself that seems real but has no basis in reality.
Always question your thoughts.
Are they deliberate? And what are you basing your assumptions on?
The best thing you can do today is set a few goals and start taking action towards them.
Success takes time and repetition.
5. Find an Outlet
Take up an activity or hobby that gets you out of your own mind.
Reading good books, taking some time out in nature. Whatever it may be.
Find something you enjoy and give your mind a break from the constant chatter.
6. Have an Empowering Daily Ritual
All successful people have some form of routine or ritual.
For example, if you began your day by reviewing your goals, and working out for 60 mins, your mind will be sharp and clear.
A routine like this will give you huge momentum over time.
For you, it might be yoga, or walking on the beach, or screaming affirmations into your pillow.
There aren’t any rigid rules to any of this all that matters are the results you get.
7. Congratulate Yourself
Whatever you do that’s positive (big or small) take a moment to pat yourself on the back.
People beat themselves up about their shortcomings but hardly give themselves credit when things go right.
When you feel like a winner it motivates your to do even more, and to become even more.
8. Take Full Responsibility
If anything is going to change in your life it’s up to you to change it.
No one cares about your success as much as you do.
Nobody is coming to help you and nobody is coming to save you.
Stop waiting for that special something that will miraculously turn you into a huge success.
Start now, where you are, and with what you have.
