How to Have a Good Day: 12 Easy Steps
By Chris Savage
Make Tomorrow Your Best Day Yet
We all have bad days.
From the time you wake up and things start going wrong you know it’s going to be “one of those days”.
First small things start going against you.
Then as the day progresses you face bigger problems and nuisances.
We can’t control everything that happens each day, so sometimes you’re going to have bad days.
But there are ways you can minimize your bad days and maximize the number of good days you have.
Let’s take a look at what they are and how you can start implementing them today.
12 Easy Ways to Have a Good Day
1. Prepare the Night Before
There's real truth to the saying “failing to plan is planning to fail”.
To maximize your day for productivity and personal enjoyment, prepare the night before.
It should only take 5 - 10 minutes in the evening before you go to bed.
Write down the two or three most important things you must get done the following day.
Outline a plan for your day so you can streamline your tasks in a way that saves you time and energy.
2. Know Your Outcome
What do you want to do with your day?
Not in the sense of each individual task, but the bigger picture.
Your desired outcome will be unique to you, your goals, and your desires.
If your focus is health and fitness then your outcome could be to increase your cardio intensity by 10%.
If your focus is your business, your outcome could be clearing all your invoices and emails.
Concerning your family, your outcome could be a few quality hours with your kids doing fun activities.
Whatever you want to do, know your outcome, and how you intend to get it.
3. Get a Good Night Sleep
Good quality sleep is one of the most underrated aspects of a successful life.
There’s a massive push to work harder, to hustle and grind.
Sure that’s important, but rarely do we hear about the importance of rest.
Your body rejuvenates and repairs itself on a cellular level when you're in a deep sleep.
We all know what it feels like the day after a sleepless night.
Brain fog, lethargy, limited focus, and motivation.
After a good night's sleep, your body feels rejuvenated and energised to take on the day and live your life to the max.
4. Eat a Good Healthy Breakfast
You can’t fill your Lamborghini with cooking oil and expect it to perform at the highest level.
The same goes for you.
You can’t put toxic s**t into your body without paying a price for that somewhere down the line.
Breakfast is an important meal so you want to get it right.
You don’t have to eat a lot.
But you do have to eat something that will give you the strength and energy to live out your day to its fullest.
5. Get Your Workout Done
Exercising and working out is the quickest and most reliable way to feel good.
Pleasure chemicals flood your mind and body as you exercise.
Your problems fade away and your self-confidence soars.
Things that once seemed difficult become easy.
And the way you see yourself and the world around you evolves into a positive experience.
The term “workout” means different things to different people.
To workout doesn’t mean you have to run a triathlon on your lunch break.
You can go for a brisk walk, ride a bike, punch a boxing bag, or hit the gym until you don’t have an ounce of energy left.
You know what you like. Design your life and your activities around that.
6. Review Your Goals
When you design your day be sure to include 5-10 minutes each morning and night to review your goals.
Every time you review your goals you remind yourself what’s important and what you need to focus on.
Distractions are coming at you from every direction.
It’s easy to come off course or to lose your focus on something else.
That’s normal, don't worry too much about it.
But you must keep your goals and dreams at the forefront of your mind.
You can do this each day by writing your goals down every day. Write them by hand, in a notepad or book.
I use a notepad app on my iPad, so I can add images and write by hand.
After a while, you have pages upon pages of goals, plans, and images representing your goals.
It becomes like a goal list/affirmation/visualization scrapbook.
Not only is it fun, but every day you’re reinforcing your goals onto your unconscious mind.
It then works on your behalf (out of your consciousness) to bring your dreams to fruition.
7. Take Action Towards Your Goals
If you want something but you can’t get yourself to take action, you have to ask yourself whether you really want it.
Nothing beats the feeling when you’re making progress on a meaningful goal.
The more progress you make the more motivated you feel to keep going.
Every day you should be taking some type of action towards your goals.
Do whatever you can, each day, to progress towards your goals.
If for some reason you don’t, it’s not time to beat yourself up.
Acknowledge it and get back on track tomorrow.
But don’t waste too many days in inactivity.
Time has a way of creeping up on you.
Before you know it a few years will have passed, and what will you have to show for it?
8. Be Nice to People
We’re only here on earth for a brief amount of time.
Why not be a source of positive energy while you’re here?
If you’re ever having a bad day forget about yourself and be nice to someone.
Smile and give a genuine compliment. Offer to help them out or kindly acknowledge them.
Not only will you feel better about yourself, but you’ll also make their day.
9. Avoid Negativity
Stay away from negativity, period.
Face-to-face conversations, chat rooms, media, whatever it is.
If it’s negative by nature, stay away from it.
Negative energy is transferable.
One negative personality in a group, if left unchecked, can disrupt the group.
Think about who you spend your time with and through what channels you communicate.
Get yourself around positive people.
Not fake or pretending to be positive as a way to mask their negativity.
Spend time around optimistic people with goals and objectives.
People who want to be more than they are and are taking action towards it.
You know you’re with the right people when you feel uplifted spending your time with them.
10. Read Everyday
Reading every day is like doing a workout for your mind.
You expose yourself to new concepts and ideas.
And you sharpen your vocabulary and critical thinking skills while you're at it.
Read books that challenge your mind to think in new ways, and to see the world from a new perspective.
Set time aside every day to read. Start with 30 mins and increase from there.
I prefer to do my reading in the morning, but find what works best for you.
The important thing is to read something worthwhile every day.
After a while, you can feel your mind getting smarter.
You find yourself communicating better, and thinking in new and better ways.
Successful people read.
Intelligent people read.
What does that tell you? Start reading.
11. Focus on One Thing at a Time
Ambitious people tend to take on too many things at one time.
We only have limited mental bandwidth to focus our attention.
The thinner you spread your focus the less effective you’ll be at any one thing.
But don’t worry, you can still get everything done, there’s just a much better way to go about it.
Choose one primary goal and go all in until you’ve made serious progress, or even better, completed the task.
Then move onto the next one. If you did this over 3 years, imagine how much you’d get done.
If you spend that same 3 years chasing ten things at once, at the end of that time you’d be lucky to have completed any of them.
Focus on one thing at a time and go all in.
12. Tell Someone Special You Love Them
The most important thing you have is love and connection with other human beings.
A billionaire with no friends or family isn’t a success, he’s a failure.
Appreciate who you have in your life and acknowledge them.
They could be gone in the blink of an eye.
Once they're gone you’ll never have another chance to tell them how you feel.
I don’t want to end this post on a somber note, but let's be real.
Any one of us could die at any time.
Don't take anything for granted.
Cherish and appreciate what you have while you have it.
