Change can be difficult and requires adjustments and sacrifice on your part, but it’s always worth it once it’s done.

1. Decide What Needs to Change

Before changing from negative to positive, you have to be clear about what you want to change and why.

It’s easy to take our eye off the ball, allowing negative habits and self-defeating thoughts to take over our lives.

Saying ‘I want to change my life,’ is a good start, but isn’t enough. You need more clarity.

When you have a concise intention, your brain accepts the command and gets to work to find the most direct route from where you are to where you want to be.

Instead of ‘I want to change my life,’ try ‘I want to be less impulsive, more self-disciplined, and to be less self-critical.’

2. Focus on Process Not Outcome

The key to success in any endeavor is having the right processes in place and following them.

You can have talent, ambition, and grand goals for what you want to do.

But if you don’t have a reliable process or strategy to follow, day in and day out, your results will be lame at best.

If you focus on your process and do your best in each moment, you will inevitably get to where you want to go.

It isn’t always easy because achieving goals often means enduring extended periods of repetitive tasks.

But focusing on our big goals too much can lead to overwhelm, especially if where we are now is so far away from where we want to be.

Putting your energy into implementing good processes that align with the accomplishment of your goals is a far better strategy.

3. Set Worthwhile Goals

If you feel like your life is not going the way you planned, there’s a reason why.

The problem is that when it comes to setting goals, most people go about it all wrong. We create our limitations before even trying.

Goals give your life direction and cause you to grow into a better version of yourself.

But you need to change your mindset from thinking about how hard it will be to focusing on how great life will be once you achieve your goal.

As soon as you do this, everything changes.

4. Build Positive Habits

Your habits and your thoughts shape who you become and the type of life you will live.

Changing from negative to positive means doing less of what isn’t good for you and a lot more of what is.

Once you have clear goals, think about how you spend your time and how your habitual thoughts and behaviors affect your life.

What activities are you doing to move you closer to your goal? And what habits do you have that are keeping you from the life you deserve.

Say your goal is to improve your finances, and your current financial habits are:

  • Excessive online shopping
  • Racking up your credit card
  • Spending every dollar you earn

These habits aren’t going to help you improve your finances.

But if you started:

  • Saving a bit of money each pay
  • Spending less on crap you don’t need, and
  • Paying off your debts

Your chances of improving your financial position are virtually guaranteed.

5. Cut Ties With Toxic People

Cutting toxic people out of your life is the best thing you can do to make your life more positive.

If someone makes you feel bad about yourself or doesn’t support you in your personal growth, they need to go.

Toxic people drag you down and make you feel like crap, destroying your self-confidence and leaving you feeling worthless.

Cutting them off will give a massive boost of confidence and make room for new relationships with positive people who support you in your goals and ambitions.

It’s not always an easy thing to do, but if you’re serious about improving every aspect of your life, then you need to cut ties.

6. Expand Your Mind

If there’s one thing you could do to make your life more positive, it’s reading.

Reading expands our minds and improves our emotional intelligence.

When we open up a book, we absorb new ideas and insights that can change how we think and act in the world.

Your mindset and outlook are what determine how you process reality, and unless you continually expand your mind, you’ll stay boxed in by the boundary conditions of your current thinking.

There are so many sources of information available that there’s no excuse not to develop your knowledge and mindset to the best you can be.

7. Seek New Experiences

If you’re thinking about how you can change from negative to positive, the answer is simple: Seek out new experiences.

New experiences enhance your world model, revealing opportunities and insights that could change your life completely.

It’s easy to fall into a negative mindset and become complacent, and it takes effort to make lasting changes.

First off, you never know what you might find when you step outside of your comfort zone. You could discover something unexpected that makes you happier than ever before.

On top of that, adding new activities/experiences allows you to meet new people who have similar interests as you do. You never know what could come of that.

There are many reasons to start working out and meditating, but the most important is that it makes your life more positive.

When you do these activities regularly, you’ll have better mental clarity, and the ability to handle the inevitable stress and chaos life throws at you.

Working out releases a flood of dopamine in your brain, giving you feelings of elation and pleasure, as well as sculpting your body to be at its best.

Meditating gives your brain time to relax and reset so that it can function at a high level.

9. Capitalize Your Dissatisfaction

We all feel dissatisfied with some part of ourselves. You have a choice; let that dissatisfaction weigh you down and defeat you, or use it as fuel to catapult you to success.

If life was perfect and we had everything we thought we wanted, what would be the fun in that?

One of the greatest joys in life is wanting something, making a diligent effort to get it, and then having it.

If you’re in a place of dissatisfaction with yourself, or your life, get excited.

Discontent forces us to make tough decisions and complex life changes that we wouldn’t be able to make without the fire that comes from our dissatisfaction.

10. Don’t Take Yourself too Seriously

There are so many benefits of being able to laugh at ourselves and the world around us.

Positive self-talk, laughter, and smiling reduce stress and improve your mindset to be more optimistic.

You also become more attractive to other people. They want to be around people who feel good, making them feel good, and everyone likes to laugh.

You don’t need to be the class clown or have a great joke collection to enjoy humor.

Start by taking yourself less seriously and noticing the funny side of things.

Lighten up a little; most things we get stressed about aren’t worth it. In any situation, when you try to see the funny side, you put yourself in a more resourceful state.

You build your self-esteem and well-being and gain an advantage over people who have forgotten how to smile.
