Best Version Of Yourself

Key Points

  • Your mind is a powerful force that shapes your reality.
  • Our lives are made up of our past experiences and continual thoughts.
  • Changing anything for yourself starts with what matters most – how you think.
  • Whoever you want to be, there’s a reliable process to get there. That’s what this post is about.

What’s Your Best-Self?

So we’ve all heard the advice “be the best version of yourself,” but what does that even mean? Well, It means different things to different people, but I think we could all agree it would be something like “healthy, happy, achieving the goals you set out for, surrounded by good people and with enough financial resources to not have to worry about money.”

Whoever you want to be, there’s a reliable step-by-step process to get there. That’s the purpose of this post. We’ve been receiving a lot of questions from readers who feel like they’re not living up to their full potential, and asking what they can do about it. I’ve felt like that too, so I decided to find some answers and write this post.

1. Think Deliberately

Your mind is a powerful force that shapes your reality. Everything you see, hear, and touch was once an idea in someone’s mind before it came into being. That’s because of these powerful little packages called “thoughts”, which contain immense energy and need only two things from us: intention and attention.

Our brain creates more than 10^18 thoughts every second, which is a staggering amount of activity on any scale. And we can’t even begin to comprehend the influence this quantum computer has over our lives.

Action Steps

  • Learn about your marvelous mind
  • Implement good practices
  • Associate with people who use their minds well
  • Make your mind strong by reading, writing, and staying in shape
  • Accept that your limitations exist only in your mind

2. Watch Your Language

Language expresses your thoughts and shows who you are and how you think on the inside. As your thoughts are revealed through your language, you can better articulate yourself as you evolve and increase your capacity to think with a broader vocabulary.

Expressing your unique ideas or feelings will ultimately determine who you become by reaffirming your self-identity, or lack thereof. Being mindful of the words you use when speaking from within helps you consciously make decisions instead of reacting automatically.

Action Steps

  • Pay attention to the language people use
  • Pay attention to the language you use
  • Decide what you won’t say anymore
  • Commit to 30 days of no pessimist talk

“The mind is everything. What you think you become.” –  Buddha

3. Your Mind-Body Connection

In the mind-body connection, your thoughts and attitude affect how you feel physically. When you’re happy, your body releases chemicals that make you feel good from the inside out.

Laughter triggers this chemical reaction in your brain, but what about the people who never laugh? Does it work vice versa? Of course – when someone’s feeling down, they become less resilient, making them susceptible mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Action Steps

  • Work on improving your mindset
  • Get your body in the best shape
  • Get clear on what you want out of life
  • Train your mind and body every day
  • Don’t worry if you have an off day. Just come back and keep going.

“Strong mind strong body” – Chris Savage

4. Rethink Your Habits

We all have behaviors we’ve repeated every day until they become a habit. Our lives are made up of our past experiences and the thoughts we continually think about – both conscious (awareness)and subconscious (unconscious). Habit-forming (also known as automaticity) happens when our brain gets trained through repetition over time.

Certain behaviors become second nature—they’re no longer conscious decisions; instead, they’re on auto-play. Your life is a by-product of your thoughts, actions, and words.

You can’t get to where you want to be without first looking at your mental models and behavioral patterns and changing what you don’t like.

Action Steps

  • Be honest with yourself; do your habits suck?
  • Choose what practices to let go of
  • Decide what your new habits will be
  • Start implementing your new habits one day at a time
  • Don’t get too comfortable. Your old habits can return in a moment of weakness.

“A habit cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time.” Mark Twain

5. Think Abundance

There are two primary mindset groups: those with a narrow view about their capabilities and those who believe that anything is possible if they work and put their mind to it. This second mindset is the abundance mentality.

People who think in a more growth-focused model are often excellent performers both academically and in life. They’re not afraid to try new things despite whatever challenges come up.

They feel an inner reassurance that everything will work out perfectly for them in the end.

Action Steps

  • Focus on your strengths
  • Read good books
  • Think abundant thoughts
  • Act as if the universe is on your side
  • Share your positive energy
  • Be action-oriented

“”Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.” Wayne Dyer

6. Respect the Power of Thought

You are the only person in charge of your thoughts and actions. Changing anything for yourself start with what matters most – how you think.

Changing your thought patterns also changes your decision-making processes, which result in your current life circumstances (good or bad). The only thing you need to change to begin your transformation is a few new thoughts.

Imperceptible at first, those new thoughts will start circulating in your subconscious. After a while, dramatic changes will occur over time that could completely alter the course of your entire existence!

Action Steps

  • Observe your thoughts
  • Start to release negative thoughts
  • Adopt new, more empowering thoughts
  • When you catch yourself thinking negatively, stop
  • Think your new positive thoughts every day until they become automatic

“Reality is a projection of your thoughts or the things you habitually think about.” Stephen Richards
